My Profile: I have been blessed by being excepted into the Honors Mentorship at Forsyth Central High School. This is my junior year, and last year at the end of my sophomore year my teaching teacher Mr. Walkup told me about this program. So, I got the application, and did the requirements to apply. Which were where I had to write three small essays, and get two recommendation from a past teacher and in my case my youth group leader. Then I recieved a letter telling me that I was excepted! For one of the essays that I had to write for my application I had to explain what I wanted to do as my career. I explained how I want to become a nurse at a practitioner at a pediatrician office. I came to the realization that I wanted this to be my career at the beginning of my freasan year.it all started when my cousin was just finishing up her nursing degree at North Georgia, and was starting to send applications to other schools to get her Nurse Practitioner degree. I was becoming really interested when she told us about her classes and what they had to do for them. I never really thought that I actually wanted to become anything like that at the time, because I had my mind set on being a teacher so I could work with children. Then I started having to go to the doctors more frequently for my asthma, and I found myself excited to go because I could see the doctors and everything they did. I started to push the dream of becoming a teacher in the back of my mind, and started focusing on becoming a doctor. I finally told my parents about my new dream of what I wanted to become, and they supported me a hundred percent. My dad even was telling me about that I could go into any kind of practice like cardiology, ENT, asthma, and etc., but none of them really stuck out to me. So I went and talked to my cousin and she told me the difference between a doctor, nurse practitioner, and a physician assistant. I liked the nurse practitioner the best, because she said that the nurse practitioner can do anything they think needs to be done without a doctor's consent. Also, they have great hours with great pay, and do not have to be on call like the doctor. So, I then made my decision of wanting to officially be a nurse practitioner, but I was still unsure of what practice I wanted to go into. A month later, I had to go to my pediatrician for a physical, and I still had no idea of what kind of nurse practitioner I wanted to become. I found myself sitting in the waiting room at the pediatrician office surrounded by newborn babies, toddlers, and their parents. I loved it, and then it hit me that I could put my two dreams into one, which would be becoming a nurse practitioner and working with children. I have always had a love and care for children, so I thought what better way to give that that by becoming a nurse practitioner at a pediatrition office.
My Mentorship: For my Mentorship I go to Campbell Family Medicine located in The Collection at Forsyth, and I go every Thursday and Friday. My mentor is Mrs. Natalie; she is the business manager for the office. Many days I shadow Dr. Campbell as she works with her patients. Keisha works at the front desk and I help her set out and display the medicine in the front of the office for the patients to see. I also help Katie, the nurse practitioner, get bags ready for patients to have their blood drawn. Many times I have also helped Natalie prepare spreadsheets for them to show patients.
My Future: After I graduate high school I plan to go to college to get my nursing degree, and then go on to get my nurse practitioner degree. I believe that this Mentorship will help me in many ways. I know that many people to excel in something when they have already had many experiences with it, and I believe I can get that from Campbell Family Medicine. At CFM I have had the privilege to experience the medical and business parts of working in a doctors office. Another thing that I can help me from this Mentorship is being able to have someone who can potientially write recommendation letters for me. These many experiences that I will encounter at CFM will help prepare me for the things that the medical field will have to test me with.

Hey, I just wanted to write a letter to the people who read my blog. I feel like you guys are partners in my education, because y'all are reading everything that I do within my internship. I just want y'all to know that I am loving my experience with my internship, and I'm so glad I get to share it with yall! I can not wait to show and tell y'all more about what I get to do through this internship. Thanks Guys!!
Also, I wanted to explain to y'all that I have meet some of my goals that I have set myself for this internship already!! I am finally not afraid to share my own voice in a conversation, and when the doctor asks me a for my opinion on a question. Also, Dr. Campbell told me that I am doing very well!
I haven't actually changed any of my goals though. I still have the same outlook of medicine when I walked into this internship, and that is that I love it, and I'm excited to one day be in the place of Dr. Campbell!
Whenever I go for my internship, Natalie has me shadowing Dr. Campbell, or just doing some extra work to help them stay caught up in the office. I help mmake many spread sheets, and do research on things for Dr. Campbell. Whenever I leave after days like these they tell me how much help I am to them, and I am very happy that I can help!
Thanks Guys,
Morgan

Throughout these first couple months of my internship it has been wonderful, and has made me very grateful to be a part of the Honors Mentorship Program. My perception of this internship has also changed. It has shown me that it is possible for me to follow my dreams, and has given me glimpses of what I want my future to be. At the beginning of my internship I was very nervous to go, but now I love going! I also thought that with the internship I would just sit back and shadow the doctor, but that has not been the case. At my internship they have me doing many different things. From shodowing Dr. Campbell, helping Natialle with office management, or even helping Katie, the Nurse Practitioner, with putting together kits for when patients get their blood drawn. So, yes my perception of this internship has changed, and I am very glad I get to experience this.
There are many things that have surprised me with this internship. I am very surprised about all the things I am getting to do and observe! I am also held responsible for many things for this internship. By being held responsible for many more things it has also help me to become more confident in myself, knowing that they believe that I can really helps me have confidence in my decisions and responses.
There are always things that I know I can improve on. I believe I need to improve on speaking up for myself, and being more confident in myself. I say this because I have came a long way already, but I am still shy at many times. Also, I still need to work on my responsibility piece, which I believe will really help on my performance.

Reflection
This article from The American Association of Nurse Practitioners fits into my research, because it gives information about what a nurse practitioner is. It also helps to explain how a nurse practitioner is viewed in the field of medicine by doctors and patients. This article adds to my paper by helping me to understand and tell others what a nurse practitioner really does. Which is to become a nurse practitioner you need a major or doctorates degree. Then you are really just right under the doctor, and you can even write out prescriptions to your patients. In the article is even said that patients prefer to see a nurse practitioner over the doctor, because a nurse practitioner is willing to spend more time with a patient than a doctor is likely to. I really liked this, because I am about wanting to help my potential patients and spend the necessary time that I need to spend with them for them to get better.
I found this source very helpful to me. It was full of information about becoming and being a nurse practitioner. It helped me to understand my further want to hopefully become a nurse practitioner one day. The way that it described a nurse practitioner being is really what I want to pen point when I become one. Which is to truly wanting to give my patient the very best care. I believe that I can use this in my research, because it will help me to explain what a nurse practitioner does, and what a nurse practitioner seems to value.

Work Ethic
This assignment that I did for my HMP was about Work Ethic. I had to take a test that measures my work ethic. It is supposed to show my work ethic compared to others. This test ranks you in three different categories for your work ethic. Which are interpersonal skills, initiative, and being dependable. I scored high in each, with above average for interpersonal skills and initiative, and a little below average for being dependable.
- Interpersonal Skills= 6.69 out of 7
- Initiative= 6.50 out of 7
- Dependability= 6.29 out of 7
This really opened my eyes to understand what I need to be giving to my mentor and workplace, and even to this class. It shows me all the potential that I really have, and that I need to use all of it. Also, it gave me some new things to use in my Memtorship, like to be more devious. Which means to show more of a skillful use of underhanded tactics to achieve goals. So, this reminds me that you do not always have to go by the book for everything, but to think outside of the box every chance you get. This will also help you to be thought higher of, because you can think for yourself.
